From peterjensen84 at gmail.com Sun Aug 23 15:04:13 2009 From: peterjensen84 at gmail.com (Peter Lyberth) Date: Sun, 23 Aug 2009 14:04:13 +0200 Subject: [Pardus-translators] Easing translation of Pardus Message-ID: The danish translation of Pardus is moving along nicely which of course is good, but i believe there are some problems with the infrastructure. Please dont take the following as a rant, I mean it in a constructive way. Ive sent the mail to both the translator list and the user list. It seems that the devs read the user list more than the translator one. 1. Ease It really should be easier to get into translation. Its one of the only ways people like me who cant code if our lives depended on it. So it shouldnt be necessary to use svn and checkin/commit. It should be run in a webinterface or something similar. 2. What to translate and when? The /trunk seems to be a big mess. I hard to find out where the .po files are located and which one to translate. There is no official documentation about the subject and it makes the barrier of entrance higher than need be. Also I have yet to find out when the translation will be rolled into the distro. I think thats all. As I said i dont want to rant, and if there is anything i can do to helpI would be happy to. Hopefully, the layout of trunk/ will evolve to a more understandable hierarchy soon. Besides i would like to add a comment: In KDE 3.5.x i think it was nice how the translation manager interface (i am not sure what it is called in english, since i have my system localized to spanish..) filtered only the directories, which contained .po files - to deal with in KBabel. Now in KDE 4.2.x there is Lokalize. Does anybody know if i can configure this, to filter and show only the directories containing .po files, as it was the standard in the translation manager interface ? Thank You. many greetings, Klemens H?ckel _________________________________________________________________ Invite your mail contacts to join your friends list with Windows Live Spaces.
