I am very new user to Pardus (in fact I just installed Pardus on my machine yesterday). I am very happy with this distribution, I believe that with some effort and a lot more users it could become #1 *nix distribution (That's why I am trying it =P). Well, after that, here's my problem: I installed the system using Pardus 2007.1 Felis chaus CD. Sound system is not working, I am using a sound card integrated to my motherboard (When I had gentoo I used intel sound drivers for this). I already downloaded and upgraded alsa packages, I looked for drivers but found nothing, and I couldnt find a forum with an answer for this... Yep, with this list of interests, I can already tell you that you will most probably like Pardus. ;) Our developer and user community not as large as other distros but we hope to grow steadily with lots of interesting projects for new developers to join and lots of usability efforts being considered for non-tech user's desktop experience. Yep its quite good but we have the author (G??rer) of iksemel library (iksemel.jabberstudio.org/), its stability is quite good, its in production used in many years and its already a part of lots of external projects, its purely C (really small footprint) and its platform independent so we just wrap it with python and voila :P > - Do you stay with gcc-3.4.6 because it's robust, or for other reasons ? Devel has glibc-2.6/gcc-4.2.0 and lots of other goodies (so Pardus-2008 will have all these) but 2007 will stay with gcc-3.4, glibc-2.3 etc., we can't break the API/ABI of Pardus inside the stable release cycle cause its already used as production environment in many place. > Now I have to understand the XML format that you use to try to package > my pet project ! > (http://code.google.com/p/pytof/) Feel free to ask whatever you want about packaging but believe me you will understand all the internals in minutes :P Cheers -- S.??a??lar Onur http://cekirdek.pardus.org.tr/~caglar/ Linux is like living in a teepee. But just in case, if someone can cut and paste his > /boot/grub/menu.lst here it could be usefull. Haven't booted from grub to a bsd for long, but I guess title BSD rootnoverify (hd0,0) makeactive chainloader +1 is what you are talking about. Since bootstrapping in bsd changes frequently, it might be better not to use chainloading title BSD root (hd0,a) kernel /boot/loader note the "a", it is for the UFS part. It may be something like (hd0,1,a) too. Just run the grub shell and use tab to find out. If you put grub loader to second disk and BIOS is set to boot from second disk, you may need to switch 0x80 with 0x81 (map first disk to second and vice versa) map (hd0) (hd1) map (hd1) (hd0) would help. -- Onur K???k Knowledge speaks, but wisdom listens From bsergean at gmail.com Sat May 26 01:29:42 2007 From: bsergean at gmail.com (Benjamin Sergeant) Date: Fri, 25 May 2007 18:29:42 -0400 Subject: [Pardus-users] looking forward to install ... Right now I am in the middle of the 'Configuring' phase, on my 512Mo machine, which is really slow... I think it would be worth profiling with qemu for example by restricting the memory to 512 ... Or maybe it's something else. When I installed on qemu (giving 700 Megs of RAM I think) it looked faster, but it was on a faster machine too. By the way, a time remaining progress bar during this rather long process would be nice. Timing the first 10 package and using it for reference to compute the whole process time ? Thanks, Benjamin. Jabber (old): jabber.uludag.org.tr Jabber (NEW): jabber.pardus.org.tr Mailing lists (old): liste.uludag.org.tr Mailing lists (NEW): liste.pardus.org.tr FAQ: Q. Do I need to re-subscribe using the new mailing list? A. No, your subscription is automatically migrated to the new domain. Now you just need to send your e-mail to LISTNAME at pardus.org.tr instead of @uludag.org.tr. Q. Will my Jabber account be also migrated? A. No. You need to define another Jabber account on jabber.pardus.org.tr server. It's easy and straightforward via Kopete. Q. How about the old domain names? A. They will be valid for some time - you are encouraged to move your Jabber account as soon as possible. Best G?rkem
