After applying your recipes, the display is functioning smooth and 
perfect, my gratitude to you both.

Let me report the situation I was experiencing before hand so that, a 
similar troubled user can find this thread while googling:

Problem resolved, previous symptoms:

I have an ATI display adapter (Mobility Radeon HD 2600) but having 
problems with 3D applications and also dual head. When plugging an 
external display to my laptop which also supports 1680x1050 resolution, 
the monitor insists on displaying only the 1280x800 region and leaving 
out the rest (it appears like a magnified version of the upper-left 
region).
