From juliogazquez at yahoo.com.ar Wed Jul 2 04:37:59 2008 From: juliogazquez at yahoo.com.ar (Julio Cesar Gazquez) Date: Tue, 1 Jul 2008 22:37:59 -0300 Subject: [Pardus-users] Corrupt packages Message-ID: <200807012237.59993.juliogazquez@yahoo.com.ar> Hello list. While trying unsucessfully to install VirtualBox in Pardus 2008, I ran "pisi check" and it got a number of corrupt packages: kpowersave kipi-plugins mc htdig k3b-i18n-de k3b-i18n-nl kmplayer k3b-i18n-es gwenview-i18n qt kernel xorg-video avahi kdetv k3b-i18n-pt_BR k3b-i18n-de libtool kdebluetooth konversation Besides the cases of kernel and xorg-video of which I make myself responsible (installation of external wireless drivers and shoehorn of binary SiS driver respectively), the rest surprised me. Most of the packages have missing files, a one or two points corrupt files (mc.ini... is not a file meant to have changes?). It's not a great concern, but why this happened? I also want to point while reinstalling (btw I extrapolate the --reinstall switch from apt but it isn't in the help!) fix the mc "corruption" but doesn't fix the missing files, so I guess that: The checking looks for files that are not really part of the package, or The packages lacks some files (htdig doesn't include htsearch!). Either way, this seems as something the respective packagers should take a look at. Believe me, there are (several) open bug reports on this issue :) The current Virtualbox release has issues with GCC 4.3 (the current compiler for Pardus). As a policy, Pardus doesn't include different versions of the same software in the distribution, so Virtualbox can't be compiled from source. Since you're using a pre-compiled package, you aren't affected by the problem. So either, 1) Virtualbox's GCC 4.3 problems will be fixed 2) Virtualbox will be binary distributed 3) Virtualbox will be deleted from the official repository I personally don't know which path will its packager (or the distribution) will take. I'm running Pardus from a laptop with ATI Radeon HD 2600 display adapter. If the external LCD monitor is not connected, it boots normally but if it is connected, and upon switching the computer on I close the lid, everything seems to run normal until the orange loading screen disappears and -supposedly- the login screen is ought to come but it never comes - it is a total blank (& black) screen. I can still drop to the terminal and then I can see the prompt and all but can't retrieve the KDE. Here is my xorg.conf, any help would be appreciated.. Best Regards, ES. The binaries are incompatible. However you can re-compile the package in 2008 using pisi's build function, if it doesn't require additional work for the new toolchain. Another way for a more permanent solution would be entering a bug report for the merging of the software from 2007 to 2008 repository in http://bugs.pardus.org.tr . It would perhaps encourage the maintainer of the 2007 package to work on the package. As for MPICH, I looked at the 2007 repository, it isn't present in there too. It doesn't look relevant. I combed the net for an answer and here is an update on what I found: - I must edit the "/usr/share/X11/xkb/symbols/tr" file (so far, so good) - I've gotta add some lines like: key { [ KP_Decimal ] }; include "kpdl(comma)" but this beats me. I haven't tried this, because I have the strong feeling that this won't switch the behavior from the current "," to "." typing. Wanted to ask beforehand. So, what should I do to make "." appear instead of "," when I press the "." key on the numeric keypad?
